About this site
Hi, I'm Frank, nice to meet you, and welcome to my interwebz netsite.
One of the beautiful aspects of photography is creating something. In a world full of consumers, being a creator, just for the sake of making something, is incredibly rewarding and liberating,
At first, I wasn't going to post any of the stuff I made. Keeping away from social media, just scanning and printing for the sake of enjoyment. While that's fun, and still rewarding to see my own work, and show the actual photos to people, there's a large part of the film community that I like being a part of.
As I'm making more photos, I've also come to realize how much more photos you make, when making photos is the activity. They're piling up and I'd like to curate the best, at least in my opinion, and post them somewhere.

Why writing?
Instagram would be the obvious option, it's made for photography right? Well it was, at some point. And while I might one day have to bow to the Zuck again, just to be legit. For now I'm sticking with Ghost and a BlueSky account. The photography community there is fantastic and Ghost just gets out of the way, let's me publish easily.
I'm not a video guy, sure I might like filming something, but editing is dreadful and I don't care much for being on camera. Writing has always come more natural. I've ran an online magazine for 8 years, and my other project, Hacktoria, is also based around storytelling and I greatly enjoy that aspect of it.
Writers block is a foreign concept, quickly pushed through by a little walk or some other activities. So after shooting film for the first year, and seeing it as a thing I'll stick with, I've decided to start sharing my work.
Why Finland?
While I'm from the Netherlands, I moved to Finland some years ago. I think the light we get here is amazing. Since we're further north, we basically get a golden hour that lasts most of the day for most of the year. The skies are usually deep blue, we have the northern lights and four real seasons. There's architecture, water, nature, cities, shipping and anything in between to photograph. Honestly it's a great place for film.
Also, I live here, so that definitely helps in making photos of the place..
Now.. I could have gone with just my name or something "frank's photography" or some stuff like that. But I've found that setting a clear frame about what to expect from a project, really helps with finding direction.
What's on this site?
It's a place to share my photos, thoughts, review gear and write about this passion I've found. To quote Chat: "In the ever evolving world of AI..." There's good reason to make more human content. I find the novelty of some generated images wore off quickly, and I've always loved photobooks. Or books with nice photos? You know, like National Geographic or encyclopedias.
So this is my space to share images, emotions and freeze a time in place. Hopefully for everyone to enjoy well into the future.
About the logo
I messed around in Canva for a bit, looked up other photography logos, and was like "damn these all look the same". Like seriously, it's a camera and a word usually. Nothing wrong with that, but I figured I'd do something a little different. Ended up using photo-frame letters and spelling out Finland, then filling those with photos I've taken.
This can be fun for the future, take photos of a different place, during a season or around something else and make different variations.
